1. Open GPM of BeamDecay to monitor the impact on beam from target insertion. Make sure the beam decay goes away after the measurment. If not, the pet page should be used to rotate target out( from Summary tab, click Target, then find the active target, select rotateout).
2. If the target moved into place (fixed target) or is moving (Profile by Sweep), but no data coming in for longer than 10s, stop the run. Rotate the target out from pet page (see bullet 1 fro dsetails).
3. If the status is not "OK", "stop", try start a run first. IF it does ont work, close the applicaiton and restart a new one. If it still not work, it is likely a server problem.
You need to start polarserver and the pc software in the particular ring (see Server problem). Close the application and restart a new one. You need to select target first before you can take measurement after you start a new application.
4. If the application stuck in measurement mode (meaning data taking is done, but the status was not "
polarization measurement has completed
"). Click stop button. If this does not fix it, close this application and restart a new one. You need to select target first before you can take measurement after you start a new application.
Changing Values
When changing values in a field, the field turns yellow (ala pet). Hit
the return key in that field to "activate" that value. If the cell
remains with a yellow background after pressing the return key, the
value entered is most likely not valid and a different value should be used.
Target Selection
When selecting the target from the target scan page doesn't seem to
"take", try selecting the other orientation (Horizontal/Vertical) tab and
then go back to the original tab and try selecting the target again.
Server Problem
There are 3 servers involved when using the polarControl program.
PolarServer (RHIC) (Proton Run) under servers -> system servers in startup. Polarimeter PC Software (BLUE) under servers -> mcr servers in startup. Polarimeter PC Software (YELLOW) under servers -> mcr servers in startup.
If failures occur that can't seem to be corrected by restarting the
application. You can try restarting PolarServer and/or the Polarimeter
PC Software (for the ring of interest).
One clue as to where the problem lies is by looking at the status field
in the application. This should represent the current status of the PC
software state. If the status indicates "Running", "Starting", "OK"
then the polarimeter PC software is probably OK. If the status is
indicating "E-Camac Error" or some other error message then the problem
could be with that software. However, an error in the status field
doesn't mean that the software should be restarted. It just means that
there "might" have been a problem with the last measurement. If the
measurements continue to fail and the message continues to show errors
then perhaps restarting the PC software is the right thing to do.
If the polarControl program shows a red colored error message in the
bottom right of the program, one of two problems has occurred. This red
error message indicates that the program has lost it's connection to the
PolarServer. When this happens, try restarting polarControl. If the
new program works then it was a polarControl problem. If the new
polarControl program also gets this red communication error then the
PolarServer should be restarted.
