- NB: Switching between longitudinal and transverse stores
requires calling Al until he specifies the steps necessary
with sufficient clarity such that they can be done by
operations or automated, whichever comes first.
- 6 bunch ramp including rotators, change tunes for better yellow
lifetime. In particular try to get the yellow tune below
the diagonal by raising the horizontal tune.
- Fill #1: If rotator ramp is basicaly lossless, just go for 109 bunches
at 1e11.
- Vahid will use Fill #1 to tune the rotator settings in
consultation with the experiments. You'll have to call
him when a successful ramp is imminent.
- Fill #2: Switch back to pp12b-rot0 for one store and ramp
109 by 1e11 bunches for PHENIX setup. They need ~2
hours with this store. Make sure that the on shift crew knows that this
store is entirely for them and that they let you know when
they have finished so you can dump it. Take CNI meausruements at the start and end of
this store as normal. Run the Jet (even though it will be
of limited use on a two hour store)
- Fill #3: Longitudinal store. Switch to pp12b-rot1 and
ramp 109 bunches at 1e11 (essentially means go back to
fill #1)

establish a target for next time.

Please be on the lookout for BBQ cross locking

- Rebucketing should be on by default in the ramp

tuning for collision and store lifetime.
- If the vacuum at IR12 appears to be an impediment
to increasing the total intensity, fill with high per
bunch intensity (1.8-2e11) and lower bunch number in
order to better approximate store lifetime conditions.

- Try rebucketing. RF has set it up for 255 GeV and
it may just work. If you survive the gymnastic and it
seems to work, tune up the lifetime afterwards. If it
becomes an impediment to ramp development, skip it for
tonight.
- When six bunches is successful, increase the bunch
number (6->56->84->109), checking for coherence.

Notes
- Al and Michiko plan on arriving for the midnight shift. No need to
call in. Al can be called starting at 2000 for if there are
problems with tune/coupling/orbit feedback and these problems
are stopping RF progress.
- Goal for ramp development is to get to at least 56x56 bunches to store with >1e11 by the
2359, Monday 1/30. We would then be able to give midnight
shifts to the experiments.
- Do not spend much time tuning for non-colliding store lifetime.
Just enough that the ramp goes well and the store losses are
not terrible since we will spend almost no time in that state.
- Do not spend any time hunting for collisions at low intensity/bunch
number. Priority is ramping intensity/bunch number first, easy
enough to find collisions once that effort has progressed.
- There obviously won't be any down time, but if there is and there
will be no RHIC beam for >20 min, please give PHENIX a
call so they can start a cosmic run. Then PLEASE remember
to call them to turn off before you inject again.

Notes
--The midnight shift may begin later than midnight depending on progress
of 9 MHz repair.
--Chuyu Liu would like a call when beam work in either ring is about an
hour away.
--Yellow work can stop when coasting beam with snakes on is
established. Do not call LLRF to begin capture tonight. Just
move on to blue.
To do
- Priority is to establish coasting beam in yellow. 9 MHz, and
YS1 have to be off. Note this means that work in blue and
yellow cannot really be done simultaneously. This also may
mean that the 9 MHz permit input has to be disabled.
- Begin with zero strength in design of all
correctors and zero current in the yellow snakes
('zero' in the snakes might mean putting 1 A in RampEditor)
- You can try to inject immediately with the
injection kicker (and skip the corrector method first-turn).
If you run into trouble, like splattering all over the
injection area that you can't fix, fall back on the corrector
(see the run plan for details)
- If you have circulating beam with good injection
efficiency and lifetime and reasonable average orbit without snakes then:
- Call Mei and have her enable and set the
snake BLM thresholds appropriately. Trigger
the ev-newfill event if she requires it. Make
sure the newfill sequence is not issuing RF
hard resets.
- Ramp snakes to operating current (RampEditor)

- If blue is still off hysteresis (likely) do not adjust the bend trim to fix the radius.

- Work with the current beam until 1000. Synchro has slipped relative to rev-tick. We want to get to a reaonable state before shutting down. This also give Don time to prep for:
- Hand over p.s. to Don for remote work
- Current limiting key test (1-2 hrs)
- Blue snakes to high current. (2-3 hrs)
- By 1400 decide on evening shift plan (in conference with Don who will decide the p.s. personnel availability):
- If power supply personnel are available, two people will come in and fix the broken gamma quad. When they have finished, re-establish circulating beam with snakes and move on to capture.
- If the gamma quad cannot be fixed today, then re-establish beam after Don's remote work and move directly to capture without the gamma quad. We should contact Steve in the meantime to fix the model. If the gamma quad really cannot be fixed, then we will need a sufficiently accurate model to have orbit corrections.
