DISPLACEMENT OF POST DURING TEMPERATURE CYCLES OF YELLOW RING.
Dependence of post displacement in yo5-du3 on recooler temperature yo5-q6-tio.

  • black: initial cooldown (296K to 4.5K, Jan 20 - 22),
  • red: warmup (4.5K to 296K, Feb 27 - 28),
  • green: cooldown (296K to 4.5K, Feb 28 - Mar 2),
  • blue: warmup (4.5K to 276K, Mar 5-10),
  • orange: cooldown (276K to 227K, Mar 10-13).

RECOOLER TEMPERATURES: Recoolers are heat exchangers between primary and secondary helium circuits. As the low temperature wave front moves from the 6 o'clock end of the Sextant (where the refrigerator is located) towards the 4 o'clock end, successive recoolers drop in temperature. The horizontal lines at 4 and 9 degrees Kelvin indicate the temperature range necessary for injection.

  • blue: cooldown (296K to 4.5K, Feb 28 - Mar 2),
  • green: warmup (4.5K to 296K, Mar 5-10)

    TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF POST DISPLACEMENTS:

  • black: yo5-du3 during initial rapid cooldown, Jan 20-22, 1997 (296K > yo5-q6-tio > 4.5 K).
  • red: bi5-du3 during initial slow cooldown, Jan 20 - Feb 24, 1997 (296K > bi5-q6-tio > 190K).
  • blue: bi5-du3 during warmup Mar 5-13, 1997 (195K < bi5-q6-tio < 242K).
